ADVAIR

(Fluticasone & Salmeterol)

ADVAIR is a long-term control asthma medicine that should be taken every day in order to prevent asthma symptoms. ADVAIR is a combination of the medicines Fluticasone (Flovent) and Salmeterol (Serevent). ADVAIR treats the two main components of asthma—airway constriction and inflammation. Together, constriction and inflammation result in narrowing of the airways in the lungs, which results in symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. This medicine will help control asthma symptoms by reducing inflammation in the airways, decrease swelling and phlegm production, and make the airway less sensitive to things that bring on asthma symptoms and also prevent airway constriction by relaxing the muscles around airways.

ADVAIR Diskus comes in, 100/50, 250/50, & 500/50 and you should only take 1 puff twice a day.

ADVAIR HFA comes in 45/21, 115/21, 230/21. You should take 2 puffs twice a day.

ADVAIR is a preventive medicine and should not be used during an asthma attack.

DO NOT TAKE EXTRA DOSE of this medicine at any time.

ADVAIR Diskus contains dry powder and must be taken with a very forceful deep inhalation in order to have the dry powder delivered deep into your lungs.  By using ADVAIR Diskus, you will not need to use a spacer such as an aerochamber.

How to use your ADVAIR Diskus:

1. To open the Diskus, hold the Diskus with one hand and put the thumb of the other hand on the thumb-grip. Rotate the thumb-grip fully to the right until it snaps into place.

2. To load the medicine, hold the Diskus in a horizontal position with the mouthpiece facing you. Using your thumb again, slide the lever fully to the right until you hear a click. The dose counter will indicate that the medicine has been loaded. The medicine is now ready for use. (At this point, DO NOT close the device, play with the lever, or advance the lever more than once.)

3. Exhale completely, so you can inhale more of the powder. (DO NOT exhale into the discus)

4. Place your mouth over the mouthpiece and inhale deeply and forcefully. Remove the Diskus from your mouth and hold your breath for about 10 seconds (count 10  in your head).

5. To close the Diskus, place your thumb on the thumb-grip and slide the thumb-grip fully to the left until it snaps into closed position.

6. Rinse your mouth with water after breathing-in the medicine. Spit the water out. Do not swallow.

  • Never wash the mouthpiece or any part of the DISKUS.
  • Always keep the ADVAIR Diskus in a dry place.

ADVAIR HFA inhaler can be taken with aerochamber, aerochamber with mask or directly from the inhaler just like any other metered dose inhaler.
